Smart buildings allow our residential and working spaces to become more efficient and economical whilst at the same time increasing the convenience of occupants. What once seemed a futuristic dream – sensors alerting occupants to a leak in their pipework or rooms that adjusted their temperature for the occupants – is now a reality, thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT).
In 2020, 75% of real estate agents expected smart buildings would become the new normal within five years. It’s a dream that’s yet to be realised, but one that we are quickly moving toward. As IoT technology becomes more widely adopted and able to integrate with smart home systems like Alexa or Google Home our built spaces are taking a step into the future with us.
BuildingLink are proud to be part of this future, facilitating the step from manually managed, inefficient buildings to automated systems that improve convenience, safety and efficiency. Our additional products are helping developers and their communities across the country step into the future with confidence.
Enhancing communication with public displays
Premium Living Media’s (PLM) screens save residents and management teams time and money by creating another passive form of communication which puts people in the know. Everyday building information such as maintenance schedules and real-time updates on access to communal areas can be quickly publicised to residents via screens placed in high-traffic areas of a building.
Interspersed with building announcements, weather updates, travel information, news and even exclusive offers to residents from local businesses can be displayed to inform as well as entertain people as they go about their daily lives. These public displays also include advertising to generate income for the building. The result is a better informed community and more time for residents to spend doing the things they love rather than scrolling through emails or checking smartphones for updates.
Smart homes for residents
It’s not just the communal areas that can benefit from smart technologies. Residents are able to integrate in-home smart technologies such as Alexa and Google Home so receive better support from BuildingLink’s system.
By enabling smart home automation integrations, residents are able to combine the power of BuildingLink with their smart home devices and streamline the management of apartment living. The arrival of deliveries, changes in building policies and the completion of repairs can be managed with a quick question to residents’ in-home Google or Alexa devices.
